Handbag Tips
Buying a new handbag isn’t always on our list of priorities, but, when it is & you buy the bag that you’ve had your eye on for ages, you just can’t wait to pair it with an outfit & get out there to pose it off! The only thing is, with daily usage & wear & tear, it’s not going to last very long if you don’t take care of it. Especially, if it’s your favorite, you want it to be around for a long time, so we’ve put together a list of some simple preservation tips to keep you & your handbag together for well, as long as possible, so read on.

Store your handbag properly, preferably inside of a dust bag in an upright position; if you don’t own any dust bags, a clean cotton pillowcase will do. You should NEVER store in plastic or vinyl as they trap moisture & you want your bag to breathe. Stuff your bag with tissue paper or scarves & sweaters to retain its shape. Cross the handles over each over so that & remove strap if you will be storing long term.
Use small pouches to protect the lining from your makeup & liquids. Make sure your pens have good caps on them to avoid those dreaded ink leaks.
We tend to forget about the shiny hardware on our bags, so, give them a good wipedown with a soft cloth to keep them shiny & avoid scratches from your jewelry, easily said than done (we know!) Generally, giving your handbag a good ole wipe down is good for it, as it’s handled every day picking up all sorts of germs from putting down, we really wouldn’t want to know how many germs our handbags harbour…NEVER use baby wipes on handbags as it will damage the finish.
Try to remove stains straight away if you can, but, depending on what type of stain it is, you’re better off leaving it to the experts if its leather. Most shoe repair professionals also work on handbags so they’ll treat it for you.
Avoid handling your bag if your hands are dirty or have lotion on them. If possible, you should also avoid holding your bag against certain items of clothing that can stain your bag over time.
Don’t overfill! It’s so easy to do so. Usually, I carry everything but the kitchen sink & have ruined handles & the shape of my handbag too many times!
And finally, handle with care, a handbag is like a trusty companion, reliable, handy & should never let you down!
